What do great recruiters do?

Recruiters are the catalysts that bring together talent and opportunity. With a keen eye for exceptional talent, a great recruiter can have a significant role in shaping successful hires and driving the growth and success of organizations. In this article, we explore the range of attributes that make recruiters great at what they do.

They can establish positive rapport with ease

Candidates can sometimes feel overwhelmed by recruiter outreach. Initial interactions are always critical which makes it important to establish a strong footing from the very beginning. When engaging with candidates, I make it a point to strike a balance between being proactive and respectful, ensuring that all interactions are professional, personalized, and considerate of the candidate’s preferences.

As a recruiter, it’s my job to find the best talent. I make sure to relay this to candidates by communicating why their profile stood out, pointing out specific details of their background that fit into the role, and highlighting why I believe they could be a great fit for the opportunity.  Demonstrating genuine interest and adopting a more personalized approach can always go a long way in fostering positive and productive relationships.

They’re highly adaptable and flexible

From changing job requirements to candidate expectations, it’s inevitable for circumstances to change rapidly. It’s common for employers to revise or modify job requirements based on evolving business needs, market conditions, company restructuring, etc. This often means adjusting the search criteria as well as candidate evaluations.

As a seasoned recruiter,  it’s important to effectively handle unexpected challenges and obstacles that may come up during the recruitment process. This involves proactively addressing concerns, adjusting strategies when necessary, and maintaining a high level of service quality throughout the hiring process.

They make things happen

Constraints are a reality that recruiters often encounter in their line of work. Whether it’s limited resources, tight deadlines, or other limitations, these constraints can easily become roadblocks if not addressed. Delivering results under challenging circumstances requires the ability to leverage tools and resources effectively and a certain level of tenacity to see things through to the end.

Rejection is always part of the job but a skilled recruiter will be able to find new opportunities to connect with the right candidates. When working with clients and candidates, rising to the occasion means putting in the work, pushing forward, and navigating through challenges.

They understand that not everyone is meant to work with them

Each person has unique needs, preferences and career aspirations. It’s only natural that some candidates are not going to be the right fit for the role or perhaps find it difficult to resonate with my approach to recruiting. It’s important to understand this reality and approach rejection with the right mindset.

As a recruiter, my main priority is to find the best person for the job over trying to work with every candidate. It’s necessary to have a keen awareness of the right alignment between myself and the candidates I work with. Rather than trying to force a fit, it’s best to focus on effective communication and transparency to provide the best possible support and quality of service.
